jBrowse -- Kanji Dictionary.
When you press the
button on the jBrowse toolbar, the kanji list appears. There are two slightly different ways to look up kanji with this remarkable tool:
Lookup a particular kanji
Enter paste a kanji into the 'Kanji' field, or enter a number in the 'Unicode', or 'JIS' fields. Then press 'Find Kanji'. Unicode and JIS values should be entered as hex numbers rather than decimal. If a kanji is found,
it will be displayed in the list.
Kanji search
Often, you don't have the actual kanji on your screen. Instead, you have only a vague recollection of a few random facts about the kanji. This is where the kanji search feature comes in -- just fill in one or more of the fields in the 'Search' part of the form.
Bushu -- pick a bushu radical from the list, or leave it at 'Any' if you don't know the radical.
Strokes -- pick the stroke count from the list, or leave it at 'Any' if you don't know how many strokes are in the kanji.
Jouyou Level -- pick the kanji's jouyou level, if you know it. This is a good way to show a list of all the kanji at a certain level so you can make sure you know them.
Meaning -- enter an English word which is part of the English meaning of the kanji.
Reading -- enter a reading in kana. Use hiragana for kun readings and special readings, and katakana for on readings. This field can't be used unless you have a Japanese input system.
Now press 'Find Kanji' and a list of kanji that match the search terms will appear.
