jBrowse -- Furigana Injection.
When you press the
button on the jBrowse toolbar, jBrowse will go through the web page in the browser and enhance it by adding
furigana (also known as 'ruby'), small kana that are displayed above kanji to make them easier to read.
To do this, jBrowse interprets each kanji in the page as the start of a word, and tries to find a suitable-looking word in its dictionary. If a kanji appears as part of
a name, or if it is used on its own, jBrowse will not be able to put in any furigana and will put in little question marks.
Note that there are some words in Japanese which have the same kanji but different kana, or are otherwise impossible to add correct furigana for 100% of the time. This means
that jBrowse can never be absolutely sure of getting all the furigana right. However, it should be right at least 95% of the time, which is enough to make furigana a big help for
those who don't happen to know every kanji.
