Control by control, the dictionary window offers you the following delights:

Enter any string here to search for it in the dictionary. There is no need to press 'enter'.

If this button is checked, then only entries containing an exact match for the given string are returned.
Search Type Initial:

Interpret Romaji as English:
If this button is checked, then a search term consisting of Roman characters is considered to be an English word.
Interpret Romaji as Katakana:
If this button is checked, then a search term consisting of Roman characters is translated into katakana, and the resulting katakana word is searched for. This is for the benefit of users who cannot
input Japanese characters. To specify the double-vowel mark in katakana (the long horizontal dash), enter a hyphen. To specify the 'n' character, enter 'n' followed by a single apostrophe. Thus:
The katakana word for 'corn' is represented by ko-n'.
The katakana word for 'singer' is represented by shin'ga-.
Interpret Romaji as Hiragana:
If this button is checked, then a search term consisting of Roman characters is translated into hiragana, and the resulting katakana word is searched for. This is for the benefit of users who cannot
input Japanese characters. To specify the 'n' character, enter 'n' followed by a single apostrophe. Voiced 'tsu' is represented 'dzu'. Thus:
'Tsuzuku', to continue, is represented by tsudzuku
